Dusy Basin Backpacking

Treasure Lakes
Bishop Lake from near Bishop Pass
I decided to tag along with my dad and Brian for a weekend backpacking trip over Bishop Pass into Dusy Basin and back even though I had been feeling sick all week. I figured I'd try and climb Mounts Johnson and Gilbert then meet them at camp on the other side of the pass. We three hiked together up the Bishop Pass trail to the Treasure Lakes junction where I headed off to the west toward the start of the route up Gilbert/Johnson. I passed a few other parties out on weekend backpacking trips and made it to the lower Treasure Lake a little under an hour from the trail junction. At that point I made the decision not to continue as I was feeling pretty weak/sick. Instead of heading northwest toward Gilbert, I turned left (south), contoured a couple of the other lakes, and slogged up a class 2 slope that leads to the saddle between the Treasure Lakes basin and the Saddlerock Lakes basin. I got to the top of the saddle about 2 hours from the trail junction.

Hiking out the next morning
I descended the class 2/3 slope just south of Hurd Peak aiming for Saddlerock Lake. I had done this descent before when we climbed Hurd a few years before. I made it to Saddlerock about an hour after I left the saddle. From there I followed the trail all the way to Dusy Basin where I rejoined my dad and Brian at a predetermined meeting spot. We set up camp and I spent some time taking photos. The lighting was great. The next morning we hiked back to the cars along the trail.
